How do I tell if my Solar Hot Water Heater is broken?

I have had a Solar Hot Water heater on the roof of my 3 level home for about 10 years. I have often wondered how do you tell if the heater is broken? If the re-circulating pump dies, am i right in saying the electric heating back-up would kick in? Would then my electricity bill skyrocket without me knowing until I got my next quarterly bill? I’d like to be able to avoid this.

When I install them, I like to put a thermometer near the tank in the piping coming from the collectors on the roof so you can see if it there is hot fluid coming from the roof into the tank heat exchanger. A low tech way to verify if it is working is to CAREFULLY touch the pipe under the insulation coming from the roof

Do It Yourself Home Solar Power – Smart Ways to Power the World!

To build your own do it yourself home solar power you simply need to understand how to make your own green energy source and today I’m going to tell you how to build your own home solar panel for electricity.

This way, the whole process will be far easier to handle.

The main parts have to be exposed to daylight.

To get them properly installed, solar modules are going to be mounted on a steel frame and positioned on your roof top. Power produced by the solar power system modules is converted from Direct Current ( DC ) to swapping Current ( AC ) thru an inverter. Next, the electrical power transfers from the inverter to the electric service panel.

The electric service panel is utilized for distributing the electrical power to different parts of your home or office to be used.

What side of my house should i put the solar panel on?

I am looking into putting a solar panel on my house, but i always get mixed up with which way the sun rises and sets in this country. What side of the house should the solar panel be put on?
Sorry, Im in England. Such a doofus sometimes.

No matter where you are on earth, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. In the norther hemisphere the sun tracks more to the south that is why positions of panels and windows to the south take advantage of the sun the best.

You need to consider not only the direction but the tilt of the solar panels too in order to get maximum efficiency.
I have included sole links about solar position and positioning solar panels. Hope it helps.

In todays increasing environmentally conscious society, reducing our carbon footprint is seen as a social responsibility. Furthermore, as traditional sources of power become evermore expensive, energy derived from renewable sources are becoming more attractive and sought after.

Herein lies the beauty of using the most efficient solar panels we can find as a means of providing some or all of our electrical power. Furthermore, the accessibility and affordability of efficient solar panels means that they are no longer looked upon as quirky but rather as innovative, sensible and ultimately cost-effective.

It is estimated, given the world governments’ increasing commitment to the use of renewable energy sources, that by the year 2030 some 14% of the world’s energy will be provided by solar power.

The term solar panel actually describes two types of device, to give them their technical names:

1. Solar photovoltaic modules

2. Solar thermal collectors.

Solar thermal collectors use the sun’s energy to heat

What is the best solar panel available, and what company does the best job for a grid tie system.?

Thinking the sharp 235 is near the top.

Hey Hockey, here’s my short answer, there is no “Best.” Not trying to let the wind out of your sails, but it’s like asking, “What’s the best car to buy?” If you have kids, the minivan is hard to beat, but it sucks as a 4 wheel drive SUV. solar panels all use the basic same type technology, but to compare features goes a whole lot deeper into the rabbit hole. If you live in Chicago and have limited roof space, it’s probably worth spending the extra buck and getting Sunpower units, they produce the most per square foot. If you want more hours of energy without tracking, single crystal is the way to go. If space is not an issue and you’re using rolls
