Can solar car chargers work without having the key to the car turned to accessory?
I am thinking of installing a solar trickle charger in my car. Most of them have a cigarette lighter plug-in for easy installation.
But I am not sure they will actually charge the battery. I cannot get power to the cigarette lighter plug-ins without having the key turned to “accessory”. If I were to plug in a solar charger, I am afraid that it would not work, simply because no complete circuit to the battery exists while the key is not in the ignition.
There are chargers that connect to the battery using alligator clips. But these mean running a separate line to the battery. Is there a solution to this seemingly simple problem?

About a solar charger…?
i am making a solar usb charger as a weekend project. i am using 4 solar panels out of a solar powered garden light when i open the solar panel i noticed there are two wires one was green and the other was red i am a bit confused because there are normally one black and one red wire so can you tell me which wire is which. for example is the green wire negative and the red wire positive or is it the other way around

the red one is the positive& the green wire is the negative.

How effective are solar chargers for cell phones ? ?
I know it depends on the solar panel you get but overall how much time would you have to charge a phone to get it fully charged ?
How effective are they ?

It depends on the charger and of course the cell phone/battery in question. However, something like the Solio charger will give about 20-30 minutes talk time per hour of daylight its charged with.
If you are considering a charger, and it is imperative that you have charge for emergencies (why else would you have one) you should consider a hybrid charger; the solio is a hybrid and it means you can charge the internal battery from the mains as well as from the solar panels as required.

During the recent Solar Activity I was wondering what the astronaught on the ISS may have experienced?
Like physical movements of the space station, noises of something hitting the hull, Radical temperature changes also the same goes for the shuttle that was docked and some astronaughts had to go in there I wonder if they were in a place where they could see it take place or if it was visible at all?I believe this is a first for man or in earlier space days did we know it?
