There are 3 types of solar air-conditioning systems:

1. Absorption refrigeration. This system requires solar concentrators to be of any applicable efficiency. They are expensive and uncommon.

2.Photovoltaic Compressor. This system uses a typical compressor type air conditioner but user photovoltaic power. These are uncommon because it would take $30,000 in solar panels to offset the typical air-conditioner. Occasionally units use a solar panel to power the fan to make the unit appear green, while the fan is a very small portion of its power consumption.

3. Photovoltaic-Dual stage evaporative cooler. This system uses 2 solar panels to power a fan. It works like a swamp-cooler but by using a heat exchanger it puts the moist air back outside and puts cool dry air into your house at a fraction of the power usage.

If you are asking at the source i.e., at the sun, it would be helium and other larger molecules which are formed from the progressive nuclear fusion of smaller atoms staring with Hydrogen atoms as the raw material. In this study we bring these fields of research together to understand design aspects of solar receiver-reactor suitable for the production of a synthesis gas consisting of hydrogen from waste plastics. In this book, studies of plastic decomposition behaviour using the thermal analysis method called thermogravimetric analysis is presented. Also presented are studies on solar concentrators and their potential to be used for thermochemical processes. The thermal decomposition behaviour of common plastics, namely low density polyethylene (LDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyvinyl chloride (PET), were studied and the kinetic parameters for decomposition determined. It has long been observed and proven that nature has already provided man with enough resources for energy—sunlight, geothermal heat, tides, and wind. Because these energy are abundant, in fact, so abundant that they could be replenished perpetually, they have come to be known as renewable energy.

Though extended discussions about renewable energy and its sources can become winded and more complex, every average person interested enough should at least know the basics in order to grasp the concept of how incredibly beneficial these energy sources are.

Man has long harnessed the power of wind and had applied it for practical purposes, albeit in smaller scale such as the power produced in windmills. Current technologies had long converted these simple renewable energy mechanisms to develop wind farms that generate energy supply without the associated risk of pollution. A lot of wind farms have been established in the United States and abroad to generate electricity. This provides proof on the increasing attraction of using wind power as source of renewable energy while decreasing environment risks and hazards. One critical consideration in establishing wind farms would the presence of constant strong winds, which is why many wind farms are located in elevated areas and even offshore locations are considered viable settings for this kind of renewable energy facility.

Renewable energy from water comes in many different forms. The most common would be the hydroelectric energy that is generated by waterfalls while some areas of the world also generate micro hydro systems that produce smaller amounts of electricity. Renewable energy is also tapped from currents deep under the ocean. This is termed as tidal stream power and several technologies have been developed to harness these viable source. Other sources of renewable energy generated from oceans would be tidal changes, temperature difference, tidal motions, and of course, waves.

Another viable renewable energy source is sunlight, which earth certainly has in abundance. There are numerous technologies developed to tap the solar energy and convert it into electricity, heating systems, and even cooling systems. Though most of these technologies are still in the initial stages, there is no denying the potential benefits promised by this renewable energy source. One of the leading concerns is cost of the materials used, though several affordable yet more efficient designs are still expected to be introduced into the market.

A lot of geothermal power plants had been built and have long been operational in several parts of the world. This is because this source of renewable source of energy generates power at low operating cost. Though some experts may contend that geothermal energy would not last as long as the others and is technically not renewable, it is still expected to provide large amount of power for a long time, even for a hundred years or so. However, it is still classified as a renewable energy source by the International Energy Agency and, like all other sources mentioned above, geothermal energy is reliable and environmentally friendly.

Though none of the renewable energy sources are considered to compete with fossil fuels just yet, it still provide some form of alternative for environmentally conscious individuals and communities in doing their share of lessening environmental degradation and destruction, something we can all ultimately derive benefits from.

the bp magazine is an international magazine of the bp  (british petroleum) group, which is based in the united kingdom.  it reports from its home country.  it is a quarterly publication.

to trace out the history of the bp group, it was a merger between bp with amoco and arco (both of which were giants in the u.s. energy industry), and also with sohio.  all under the one or same banner, started or began their journey as part of john d. rockefeller’s standard oil trust in the late 19th century.  today, 40% of the present bp’s staff, business, profits and achievements are from the u.s.

for more than 50 years, amoco and arco were stalwarts of the u.s. and global (too) oil and gas arena/field.  now they became part of bp and their talent for refining, technical innovation and retailing has helped create a global energy giant, which is rich in experience.

the bp has five major refineries in the u.s. – one in carson, california, second in cherry point, washington, third in texas city, texas, fourth in toledo, ohio and the last and fifth in whiting, indiana.  al the five play a vital role in supplying local markets.

in 1968, arco made the first discovery at the massive pradhoe bay, the larges oilfield in alaska, u.s.  bp tapped its share of the reservoir and in the eight years before oil flowed, the two companies worked together to assure the u.s. government that environmental risks had been addressed.  in fact, arco tanker was named after prudhoe bay, i.e., arco prudhoe bay.

peter sutherland has chaired the bp’s board for the past 12 years including the company’s centennial year. 

it is a rare phenomenon that the magazine’s latest/current and third (3rd) issue contains the image of the original london bridge, captured by photographer marc morrison.  built in 1831, the bridge was put up for sale by the british government in 1962, as it could no longer handle the flow of traffic across the river thames.  purchased by robert mc culloch – founder of lake havana city in arizona, u.s. – for usd 2.4 million ($ 2.4 million), the bridge was subsequently dismantled and each stone was numbered.  they were then trucked to lake havana city, where reconstruction began in september, 1968.

bp’s flat ridge wind farm in barber county, kansas, u.s., is one of several major investments the company is making in wind energy in the u.s.  as all of us know, wind mill concept falls under the category of non-conventional energy sources, which is quite opposite to the conventional method or form adopted by the famous enron corporation, to generate power/electricity .

as far as the top management of bp is concerned, carl-henric svanberg, who is currently chief executive officer of the swedish telecommunications company, ericsson, is elected to replace peter sutherland,  as bp’s chairman.  svanberg is scheduled to join the bp board as chairman-designated and a non-executive director on 1st september, 2009.
