To build solar charger for 6 AA how do i make a regulator that will deal with varying input V &no overcharge?

I have a chinese built charger that charges two cells at a time. I want to charge six at a time so i can use my radio more often.
the batteries are LIMH or NIMH

Solar chargers tend to be slow. If you really want to use your batteries a lot, I’d suggest buying a charger that plugs into the wall and does 4 AA batteries at a time. Those can be found for $10, maybe even less. You could even get two of them.

If you must use solar, then I’d suggest getting as many more solar chargers as you need to do 6 batteries at a time.

Is there any kind of big battery solar power thing?

I am trying to describe basically a big battery that charges up during the day by solar panels outside and can be used to power lamps and phone chargers and whatnot. I want to start using at least some solar technology but I am only 15 and I do not have a house on which to place panels.

You could take a look at a product that has the battery and inverter combined. Then you can charge that with a solar panel plugged into the cigarette light adapter on it. Its small, so the lamp should have a CFL bulb in it (which you should be using anyway to save power). It’s nice to have for camping trips as well, we use this all the time.

Will someone help me with a basic block diagram for a solar-electric system?

It needs to include solar panels, solar charge controller, battery pack, 6000 watt inverter (min), transfer switch system, and wiring and accessories. If you know how to design this, please leave me a message. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

You can also find a schematic of an off-grid residential PV system here….

Just click on the image that says “click here for schematic”

I would also recommend checking out Home Power Magazine. They have lots of informative articles that might help you out a bit.

How do I connect batteries to create a battery bank?

I have 4 x 110ah 12v batteries with standard terminals.
How do I connect these together to create a 12v battery bank of 440ah?
Also any suggestions on what sort of connectors / bus bars i need?
I was going to speak to an electrician but thought I’d try here first.
Also when wiring is it best to connect positive to positive, negative to negative. I need to keep 12v not 24 as my charger, solar panel and inverter are all designed for 12v.
Thankyou

You are right , positive to positive then negative to negative keeps you on 12 volts. This is parallel connecting.
Use a wire diameter that is much the same as what you find on a car battery in a car.
