well, because of …
well, because of the fairly high speed of the blades, relative to windspeed (speed of tips here idk 4-6 times windspeed i guess) all air travelling through the rotor will pass a blade atleast within say 0.2 bladelength, or 10% the rotordiameter,
if my brain serves me right ;p which aerodynamically is quite close.
the 3 blade design is a nice tradeoff between material cost, smoothness of power, noisyness, effectiveness, durability, operating envelope, etc.

People who don’t …
People who don’t work in the utility business have no understanding of how the grid works. Generation has to almost exactly match demand 24/7/365. If demand exceeds generation, you have blackouts. If generation exceeds demand, you have overload which usually leads to blackouts. That means sources of generation must be close to 100% controllable by man. Wind is 0% controllable by man, therefore it needs conventional backup 24/7/365 which then increases pollution.

I now realize where all this wind is coming from. It’s these Giant Fans going up everywhere!! I bet it’s these commie-alqada terrorists! Wow! I would love …
Wow! I would love to go to that school! Just think, it even adds to the learning experience. They can just walk outside for a field trip to learn about wind energy! Wind energy is not about global warming. It’s about using something that can never go away…There shall never be a day when wind is used up. Besides, you aren’t going to put a wind farm in a place where there’s no wind. You’re always going to use it where it can work best – in places where the wind is almost always blowing.

Why do anti-global …
Why do anti-global warming people seem so angry about alternative energy sources? Is anyone really saying that windmills are being designed to provide 100% of our energy needs? No. How is providing alternative energy sources ruining our country?
And please don’t tell me that you believe that windmills create more pollution than burning fossil fuels. I’m sure I must have misread that.

Electricity needs …
Electricity needs to be available AND CONTROLABLE 24/7/365. Because of that irrefutable fact, wind power is completely worthless by itself. The dirty little secret is that all wind power has to be backed up by conventional power, usually natural gas. Wind power is a waste of capital, and because of the need for perpetual backup, actually adds to pollution. This is just another example of why the global warming hoax is ruining our country.
