solar heat gain coefficient
Will any dual pane ALUMINUM (not vinyl) windows meet the following specs? U-factor .40 or less, solar heat?

gain coefficient (SHGC) of .40 or less. My HOA does not want to allow vinyl windows, only aluminum. Thanks.
These #s are set by the administrators of an energy efficiency rebate program – they probably are presuming vinyl windows. HOA wants to remain stuck in the 70s however.

Who is stipulating the gain co-efficient because it is a misconception that all the solar gain comes through the windows, the heat can actually be coming back through the walls because of UV on the exterior.

Call your local glass or window manufacturer and they can answer very specifically about the windows. Why aluminum and are the frames thermally broken? If you go to http://www.thermoguy.com/globalwarming-heatgain.html you can see temperature imaging of the exterior of buildings when they are impacted by solar radiation.
